Arch Chemicals Inc. said it will close its research and development facility in Cheshire and two other research locations on the East Coast, and consolidate its domestic R&D and technical services activities in Alpharetta, Ga.
The Cheshire facility, located at 350 Knotter Drive, employs 43 research scientists, technical support personnel and business staff employees, company spokesman Dale Walter said Friday.
Forty of the 43 workers employed at the Cheshire facility have been offered an opportunity to relocate to either Alpharetta or the company's headquarters in Norwalk, Walter said. The employees were informed of the decision earlier this week, and those who were extended relocation offers have been given several weeks to inform the company of their decisions, he said.
Employees who were not offered a relocation opportunity will be laid off, Walter said.
